Jerry Hesch is a Nevada Licensed Physical Therapist with a Masters of Health Science from the University of Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN.

He developed the Hesch Method over more than 30 years of clinical practice, describing numerous patterns of motion dysfunction.  In the lumbopelvic area alone, he has identified more than a dozen faulty motion patterns not yet described in the literature.

Mr. Hesch has taught more than 70 seminars since 1985, instructing clinicians in application of Hesch Method to assess and treat the pelvic, sacroiliac, and lumbar spine.  He has also developed learning materials on his advanced body of work; which allows the clinician to apply manual therapy using a whole body approach.

Mr. Hesch is currently involved in teaching and research, and is also accepting patients presenting with complex motion dysfunction.

INVENTIONS AND ENHANCEMENTS:

***Additional details regarding Inventions and Enhancements are available upon request***

2010 – Developed a flexible foot model with AP and superior-inferior axis to demonstrate the significant transverse plane rotation that is greater in magnitude than the frontal plane motion

2009 to present, paper in process - “The Unique Signs, Symptoms, and Objective Measures of 3rd Cervical Nerve Radiculopathy, Discopathy, and DJD”.  Explores clinically misunderstood, vast somatic territory, describing significant branching and multiple anastamoses of the 3rd Cervical Nerve.

2008 to present – Developed a Beta Version Distance Learning Program on the Advanced Hesch Method work; which also addresses common patterns of accessory motion dysfunction and pain throughout the pelvis/SIJ, hip, joints of the foot and ankle, rib cage, thoracic and cervical spine, as well as inguinal peripheral neuropathy. Currently training several students in the US and Australia by invitation.

2003 to  present –Type II Cuboid Syndrome:   Described Type II cuboid syndrome, augmenting the traditional description of “cuboid syndrome”, and identifying a knowledge gap.  Type II cuboid syndrome is a complex pattern involving all major joints of the foot and ankle, as opposed to a single articular dysfunction. Described a mobilization sequence (10-steps) for restoring normal talo-crural, sub-talar, mid- and forefoot motion. In contrast with the traditional manipulation for Cuboid Syndrome, this approach is a mobilization into pronation. This is opposite the arthrokinematically vague description and manipulation described in the literature.

1983 to present - Described a dozen new patterns of pelvic/SIJ motion dysfunction, not described in the body of literature.

2008 - Invented device to enhance extension and inferior glide to upper thoracic segments and costovertebral joints, and P-A guide to same.

2007 to present - Developed a Distance Learning Program on the Hesch Method Basic and Intermediate work.

November, 2008 - APTA CSM Poster Presentation accepted for a 3-D Pain Drawing, Las Vegas, NV. Hospitalization prevented participation / presentation.

November, 2008 - Developed unique treatment for side bent coccyx joint fixation.

2007 - Designed upper cervical motion restrictor.  The classic cervical soft collar reduces motion only in the mid and lower regions.  Some injuries, albeit rare, emphasize the upper cervical spine.  This remarkably simple design has limited marketability.

2005- Developed intra-inguinal palpatory screen for traumatic peripheral neuropathies of the ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric, and genitofemoral nerves.

2005 - Developed diagnostic and treatment tools to address hypermobility and hypomobility in the upper, mid, and lower cervical spine:  combining and stacking active motions and active accessory motions.

2005 – Described evaluation and treatment of limitation hip extension with patellar compression, addressing a subtle flexion and posterior glide fixation, not previously described in detail the literature (see Saahrmann et al).

2004 – Discovered that distraction and transverse plane rotation, AKA abduction, is the key to restoring normative calcaneal valgus in majority of clients with a unilateral restriction, either post – trauma, or chronic insidious onset. The correction is the last after restoring normative accessory motions in all other major joints of the foot and ankle complex.

1999 – Developed a vertical SI support, with and without force transducer.

1998 - Described 5 additional motion dysfunctions (eval & rx) in addition to to the usual superior glide fixation of the 1st rib. This can be a pattern involving the other proximal joints: sternoclavicular, AC,  costosternal and the C7-T1 motion segment.

1990 – Designed and developed a tool to objectively teach and give feedback regarding forces used on the pelvis and other bony structures and joints, when learning “Springing With Awareness.”

1989 - Described and used an additional grade to the traditional 5 grades of joint mobilization. Similar to Grade IV, but force progressively moves the motion barrier. For some joints a specific amount of force is a beginning point.

1986 - Expanded the traditional method of spring tests, naming it“Springing With Awareness.” In contrast, this approach maintains the slack taken up throughout the spring test, rather than a return zere, thus repeat springing can clarify, and a very important elastic property; spring recoil yields information regarding hypomobility and hypermobility.

1983 to 1985 - Developed Posture Chair, very similar to the Balanz Chair®, except more comfortable and able to accommodate small to very tall users.

1982 - Introduced concept of the Seat Wedge.  Manufactured and marketed it locally, Albuquerque, NM, but did not patent it.

Communicated with many authors, educators, researchers and inventors from all over the world on rehab and biomechanical topics; throughout my career.
